What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals (oxidants). Skin cell damage by free radicals
is one of the key mechanisms of the aging process. Antioxidants reduce your skins
retention to free radicals. Also, free radicals mediate many forms of inflammation.
Not all antioxidants are created equal, some are more potent than others. They vary
by their range of activity. Sophia con il Sole combines our own highly concentrated
antioxidant rich oils to create the most powerful and effective skin therapies in
the world.
Free radicals are culprits behind UVA, UVB, and UV ray damaged skin, thus indicating
a demand for concentrated topical antioxidant administration.
Antioxidants diminish severity of UVA-induced sun damaged skin.
Regular topical application of highly concentrated antioxidants may be of the utmost
benefit in efficiently preparing skin against free radical stressors occurring during
daily life.
Antioxidants protect the skin tissue against the sun's UV induced oxidative stress,
skin damage and aging.
Antioxidants:
- fight free radicals in every part of the cell
- improve the overall appearance of your skin
- are skin preserving nutrients
- help your skin retain its youthful moisture
- maintain the integrity of your connective tissue
- can reduce redness in your skin after UVB exposure
- prevent stretch marks / reduce appearance of stretch marks
- have an anti-inflammatory effect on your skin
- help wound healing
Antioxidants work best for treating problems such as:
- fine lines and wrinkles
- under eye bags and puffiness
- acne scars

Free Radicals
(oxidants)
Free radicals show up on your skin as wrinkles, blemishes, brown or white spots,
cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions, little warts, along with sagging and deterioration
of the skin. All of these things can result from exposure to environmental pollution
ultraviolet radiation from TV's, microwaves, radio waves, computer terminals, auto
exhaust, etc. It is now recognized that free radicals are the contributing causes
to more than 60 diseases, such as heart disease, cataracts and rheumatoid arthritis.
If left unchecked, free radicals may cause heart damage, cancer, cataracts, and
a weak immune system. Free radicals may be involved with aging of tissue; and coupled
with sun damage, could promote skin cancers. While free radicals are produced by
normal human metabolism, they can be increased by smoking, alcohol, exposure to
heavy metals, and radiation. The Following factors can accelerate skin aging:
- over exposure to the sun
- stress
- solar elastosis
- poor diet
- sleep deprivation
- harsh soaps or detergent - based moisturizers
- excess alcohol consumption
- first or secondhand cigarette smoke
- other degenerative changes
